SGA Biennial Meetings 

In 1989, M. Pagel proposed organizing Society Biennial Meetings. The 25th Anniversary Conference of SGA was organized by M. Pagel (SGA Executive Secretary 1991-1998) and held in Nancy, France, in 1991, and it became the start of a highly successful tradition. Since then, SGA has organized such meetings every two year - mostly in August/September of the odd-numbered years - with steadily increasing popularity and recognition. Past SGA Biennial Meetings have taken place across European countries, Great Britain, North America, South America, China, Australia and New Zealand. 

 

Upcoming Biennial Meeting

The 19th SGA Biennial Meeting will be held in Perth, Western Australia, Australia, between 29th August and 2nd September 2027. 

Previous SGA Biennial Meetings

The 18th SGA Biennial Meeting was held on the campus of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, USA, between 3rd and 7th August 2025, celebrating the 60th anniversary of SGA. It provided an excellent platform for exchange of ideas on a broad range of issues related to mineral deposit research, exploration, development, and the environment. The technical sessions were flanked by pre- and post-conference field trips to such exciting destinations, such as Alaska or the Yellowstone National Park, as well as a series of workshops. Close to 600 participants (a quarter of which were students) took part, nearly half of them were from the USA, the others from as many as 40 different countries.

 

The 17th SGA Biennial Meeting, entitleld "Mineral Resources in a changing world", was held at the ETH Zürich at the Hönngerberg campus in Zürich, Switzerland, between 28th August and 1st September 2023. The meeting was co-organised by ETH Zürich, the University of Geneva, both in Switzerland, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the University of Freiburg, both in Germany. Expectedly the majority (54 %) came from Europe, 15 % from North America, 11 % from Australia/New Zealand, 20 % from Africa, South America and Asia.  

The 15th SGA Biennial Meeting “Life with Ore Deposits on Earth - LODE 19” was held in Glasgow, UK, 27-30 August 2019
