Field Trip to Collective Mining
The SGA student chapter of the University of Caldas recently had the opportunity to visit one of the most prominent companies in mining exploration in Colombia: Collective Mining. During the visit, a group of students participated in the practice of drill core logging, a fundamental activity for geological analysis. In addition, the students learned in detail about the “Apollo” project, located in the municipalities of Supía and Marmato (Caldas), where copper, gold, silver and tungsten mineralization associated with porphyry systems and polymetallic veins are being explored.

Mining lectures and courses
The SGA student chapter of the Universidad de Caldas has organized several events, such as lectures focused on the main mining deposits in Colombia, like the Buriticá mine in Antioquia, recognized for its high gold production and its contribution to the technological development of the sector. The chapter also promotes the academic growth of its members through specialized courses. As an example, the first course entitled “Colombian Mining Regulations and Classification of Resources and Reserves according to the National Standard” was held, focused on the application of the Colombian Standard of Resources and Reserves (ECRR) and oriented to meet the technical requirements demanded by the National Mining Agency (Agencia Nacional de Minería).

Junior Education
Scientific outreach project aimed at elementary school students, with the objective of fostering basic geological knowledge and understanding of mineral deposits. The program was structured into three modules: Basic Geology (Planet Earth, minerals, and types of rocks), Mineral Extraction, and Environmental Responsibility. The methodology combined hands-on activities, simulations, and critical reflection on the responsible use of land. The project highlighted the importance of minerals in everyday life and promoted a sustainable vision of mining.
