Student Chapter Peru
The SGA Student Chapter Peru is an academic organization founded in 2012 that currently brings together 76 students from the 11 Peruvian universities where Geological Engineering is taught. Our chapter promotes integration, academic development, and the professional growth of the country’s future geologists, while consolidating itself as a space for representation, collaboration, and growth within the national geoscientific community.
NATIONAL MEETINGS
Every year, we organize the SGA National Meeting, our flagship academic event aimed at promoting integration, knowledge exchange, and the professional development of Geological Engineering students. In addition to our annual meetings, we have consistently organized technical visits, lectures, and workshops that connect our members with the most significant mineral deposits in the Andes. Some of our notable activities in recent years include the VI SGA National Meeting, which featured a field trip to the Tantahuatay Mine in Cajamarca (2024), where participants explored high-sulfidation epithermal systems. This was followed by the VII SGA National Meeting in Moquegua (2025); this latter event included a landmark technical visit to the Quellaveco Mine, one of the world’s most advanced digital mining operations, strengthening field-based learning and fostering a closer connection between students and industry-leading technology.
PLATAFORMA DIGITAL DE LOS YACIMIENTOS MINERALES
The “Plataforma Digital de los Yacimientos Minerales” (PDYM) is an initiative of the SGA Student Chapter Peru. Its primary goal is to promote the dissemination and discussion of mineral deposits, covering their key characteristics, typologies, geodynamic contexts, mineralogy, and exploration techniques. Furthermore, the PDYM website hosts the schedule for all upcoming technical talks; therefore, all members are encouraged to visit the page regularly for updates.
We also maintain a dedicated Vimeo channel, where we publish the full recordings of all lectures and webinars organized by the SGA Student Chapter Peru, ensuring our educational content remains accessible to our community at any time.
Currently, our Chapter continues to expand its reach, looking forward to organizing exciting events that enrich students' knowledge and connect them with experts from both the scientific and applied fields, from Peru and abroad alike. We remain dedicated to enthusiastically cooperating with other Student Chapters and industry partners to exchange geological knowledge and build lasting professional friendships on a global scale.
