SGA Student Chapter Prague

The SGA Student Chapter Prague was founded by SGA student members from Charles University in Prague in the spring of 2002. In addition to excursions across our geologically diverse home region, the Bohemian Massif, we have also been organising international field trips, lectures, and workshops for many years. Some of our notable events in the past 10 years include the Field Trip to the High Atlas, Morocco (2016, in cooperation with the SGA Student Chapter Morocco), Field Trip through Catalonia (2017, Barcelona, Prague, and Siberian SGA Student Chapters cooperation), the Gold Short Course (2018, led by Professor David I. Groves), the Mineral Deposits of Colombia field trip (2019, in cooperation with the SGA Student Chapter Colombia-Bogotá), or the seminar Giant Impacts and the Formation of Ore Deposits, featuring Professor Hartwig E. Frimmel, held as part of the SGA Keynote Speaker Programme in 2023.

Currently our Chapter has 62 members (56 student and 6 regular members), and we look forward to continuing to organise exciting events that enrich students' knowledge and connect them with experts from both the scientific and applied fields — from the Czech Republic and abroad alike. We will continue to enthusiastically cooperate with other Student Chapters to exchange knowledge and build new friendships on an international scale. For any collaboration opportunities, please contact the SGA Student Chapter Prague President, Jan Mráček.

Stay tuned for our upcoming joint field trips: Ore Deposits of the Fennoscandian Shield (September 2025, in cooperation with the SGA Baltic Student Chapter) and Bohemian Forest and South-East Germany (October/November 2025, in cooperation with the SGA Student Chapter Erlangen).
